What is Belgian Blonde Beer?

A Belgian Blonde beer is a pale, golden ale that offers a delicate balance between refreshing drinkability and surprising strength. Created in response to the rise of pilsners after World War II, Belgian Blonde ales were brewed to tempt lager drinkers back to the abbey. Despite their light appearance, these beers often have a stronger kick than you might expect, with fruity, spicy yeast notes and a smooth, clean finish.

At the Badger Brewery, we’re proud to offer our own take on this classic style with our new Outland Blonde, a Belgian-style ale that perfectly embodies the traits of this beloved beer category.

However, the Belgian Blonde ale itself emerged in the mid-20th century as a way to compete with the increasing popularity of pilsners. Brewed with pale malts and designed to have a light, golden colour, Belgian Blondes are known for their easy drinkability. But don’t be fooled by the pale hue, these beers often pack a punch with higher alcohol content and a complexity that belies their light appearance.

Our new Outland Blonde (5.0% ABV) is a nod to the Belgian Blonde tradition, but with a modern edge (and brewed right here in Dorset). With its radiant golden hue and smooth finish, this beer offers a crisp, refreshing first sip. The Belgian Abbaye yeast contributes a delicate spice, while Hallertau and Solero hops add a zesty twist, and the light malt base keeps it all smooth.
