The Best Beers for Bonfire Night Food

Bonfire Night food has a particular job to do. It needs to be hot, hearty and easy to get stuck into while the temperature drops outside.

Sausage rolls disappearing faster than expected. A pot of chilli keeping warm in the kitchen. Hot dogs loaded with all the extras. Something sticky for pudding. And, naturally, a few good beers within reach.

Rather than overcomplicating the menu, we've matched some Bonfire Night favourites with beers from Badger and Outland. From familiar Dorset characters to something a little further off the beaten track, here are some of our favourite Bonfire Night food ideas.

Sausage rolls + Fursty Ferret

Beer with sausage rolls? There are few things more welcome on a cold November evening than a still-warm sausage roll, particularly when there's a Fursty Ferret alongside it.

Our characterful Pale Amber Ale is biscuity and balanced with a zesty hop character, giving you plenty of malt to sit alongside the pastry and sausage without overwhelming either.

And frankly, if there's food lying around unattended, you probably shouldn't trust our Ferret anywhere near it.

Hot dogs + Tangle Foot

Beer with hot dogs is Bonfire Night territory through and through. Keep the hot dogs simple with mustard and onions or pile them high with whatever takes your fancy.

For the beer, reach for Tangle Foot. This Badger Golden Ale is crisp and balanced with a noble hop character, making it an easy partner for a loaded hot dog.

Tangle Foot has a legendary reputation for evenings that don't quite go according to plan and on Bonfire Night, that feels fairly appropriate.

Chilli + Outland East of Eden

If your idea of Bonfire Night food involves a little more heat, get a big pan of chilli on and enjoy some beer with chilli.

For the beer, go Outland. East of Eden brings a completely different character to the table from our traditional ales. It's a modern IPA choice for anyone who wants something bolder alongside all those rich, spicy flavours.

Even better, there’s no need to start hunting for another recipe. We've already got a beer-infused chilli recipe ready and waiting.

Pulled pork + Hopping Hare

Slow-cooked pulled pork is exactly the kind of low-effort, high-reward food Bonfire Night calls for. Get it cooking early, pile it into buns later and let everyone help themselves.

Alongside it, try Hopping Hare. This Pale Ale from Badger is hoppy and refreshing with hints of citrus, bringing a brighter character to a rich, sticky plateful.

Campfire hotpot + Fursty Ferret

Yes, the Ferret is back. But this time there's a very good reason.

Our Fursty Ferret Campfire Hotpot already has Bonfire Night written all over it. Warming, hearty and built for a cold evening, it also gives you an excuse to put the beer used in the dish on the table alongside it.

Make a big one, gather everyone round and let the Ferret do what it does best.

Sticky chicken wings + Outland Dead Reckoning

Sometimes Bonfire Night calls for a plate you can pass around rather than a sit-down dinner. Enter sticky chicken wings.

Our Sticky Cranborne Poacher Chicken Wings are already waiting in the recipe collection, but for the glass alongside them, try heading off in another direction with Outland Dead Reckoning - a West Coast IPA with classic bitterness, it gives the pairing a bolder, hoppier edge.

Sticky toffee pudding + Master Stoat

Once the fireworks are finished and everyone heads back towards the warm, there's only one sensible thing left to do: enjoy some beer with sticky toffee pudding.

Sticky toffee pudding already has plenty of deep caramelised sweetness, so we'd put it alongside one of Badger's darker characters.

Master Stoat is our rich Coffee Stout, combining roasted notes with coffee, caramel and toffee flavours. In other words, this is one Stoat that's particularly comfortable around pudding - the perfect pick for Bonfire Night celebrations.

Build your Bonfire Night beer box

Whether your Bonfire Night involves a garden firepit, the local fireworks display or staying firmly inside where it’s warm, there's no need to settle for one beer all evening with this Autumn beer pairing guide.

Go classic with Badger, head somewhere less expected with Outland, or mix the two.

Build your Bonfire Night box with Badger and Outland beers and get the fridge ready before the first firework goes up.
