About Outland’s Milk Stout

The Outland Milk Stout isn’t your average stout beer. It’s a dark and delicious concoction that’s been hailed as a ‘smuggler’s best-kept secret’. Crafted with care and precision, this smooth stout boasts indulgent flavours of cocoa, coconut, and vanilla, all harmonising with dark, roasted malt and subtle hop notes. It’s no wonder this brew has received four internationally recognised brewing awards.

Whether you’re relaxing by a roaring fire after a day of adventure or indulging in a slap-up steak dinner, our milk stout is the perfect companion.

The Recipe

Now, let’s delve into the heart of this culinary masterpiece. Here’s what you’ll need…

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Outland Milk Stout
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • Vanilla extract (optional, dependent on desired sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C. Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the Outland Milk Stout and butter. Heat gently until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, beat the eggs and sour cream together until well combined. If you’re choosing to add some vanilla extract for extra flavour, add a splash.
  5. Gradually pour the stout and cocoa mixture into the egg and sour cream mixture, whisking continuously until smooth.
  6. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, slice into generous portions and savour the indulgent flavours. This cake is perfect for any occasion, whether you’re celebrating with friends or simply treating yourself to a well-deserved dessert.
